Study of Aesthetics and Art

What constitutes good art? What exactly are the values, the set of properties that define good art? How are these properties defined? Who defines them?

Just what is it that makes a piece of art ‘good’? Why are viewers in awe? What exactly is it that they are in awe of? Could it be done any differently? Would the same lines of distortion in a photograph be deemed as good a picture as if it were to be made use of by a different photographer? What qualifies a tasteful decor? Are these decisions of art considerations defined by a viewer’s social status, past encounters/experiences, media influences,… peer pressure? What sort of values then, must the true art critic be applying upon his/her assessment?

These are just partial of the million and one questions that pop into head each time art is contemplated. A personal opinion secondary, I am much intrigued by what exactly was the driving factor that made its arrival, how the artist decides that his/her piece of work could and would be deemed ‘art’, by what reasoning/s was it based upon, and more importantly, how the viewer decides whether they like or like not, the piece of work that is presented.

Ultimately, by study of these psychological philosophical elements, I am hopeful of a conclusive set of no-fail, foolproof values that would be relevant to art of any form, that could be used in the creation of work that would be unquestionably appealing with the general mass.
